I don't think they really add much to the game. I think I would feel differently if they were more tied in to the story or the character of the armies. Right now, it's just a use for an empty slot in a force org for anyone with an inquisitor. Now if they were tied into some integrated BFG skirmish, then I could see using them.

I have to agree that they don't add anything and I think most of us forgot the ones we had a good number of times. Anybody want to defend including bombardments?

whereas I have not actually had the privilage of playing with you all at the seigeworld event, (I just found you all a few days ago, and downloaded the '05 rules release), I would say that some of us that have a damocles enjoy using it to its fullest extent whenever possible. If it has no effect in the game then so be it, however it might be more effective if it only lasted for six game turns. that way once its used it really is being used for the time period that its allowed. Also considering that the weapons that are available are coming from a strike cruiser in orbit from above perhaps it might be worth it to modify the rules to make all but the barrage orbital strike a titan killer weapon or perhaps modify the sheild rules to work more like void sheilds? Just a thought.

I was just playing around with the Damocles yesterday and realized that there was this issue. It still allows the marines to take an Imperial aircraft, but many people don't have the model for that. Maybe the damocles should have an exception. It might also make sense to limit the number of shots fired (although 6 may be too many, but might be OK since it has a basis in the model). We could go tothe Dawn of War pattern for the orbital bombardment brough tin by a damocles. Single use weapon, but more templates fired as a barrage.

Interesting ideas... I do feel that for the melta torpedos or the Lance Strike it should last for 6 turns... with 6 turns being considered the average game length and in the case of the second and following strikes you can always have the right to adjust fire based on the terrain as your marker. unless you want all six shots to land at once that is... (may the emporer help whoever is targeted in that orbital strike then!) if you wanted to make the barrage strike choice a one shot deal... okay fine but make equivlent to six turns worth of one shot barrage strikes... the idea is that an orbital barrage fired from an imperial/marine strike craft from orbit should be devastating to say the least. This does not mean that I want lots of people trying to buy as many of these super bombardments as possible either however... but in an extended game it might be worth it to limit it to one orbital strike per force org chart or something to that effect. seriously if I was to run my marines in a battle against titans (even if I do own one) you can bet that they would want to call down some almighty orbital strike down on it to try to even the odds a bit before it decides to trounce my company to bits. by allowing it to fire for six turns it actually gives me a chance to adjust fire onto the target and maybe (if I am lucky) actually damage it. the down side is... if the damocles goes.... so does the orbital strike... even if I didnt fire it yet! Scout teams going hunting anyone?
